New World Bank Procurement Team Meets with UGPE
12 março, 2026The Coordinator of the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE), Nuno Gomes, accompanied by the Procurement team, welcomed the new Practice Manager of the World Bank’s Procurement Department and the new Procurement Hub Coordinator, both based in Dakar, Senegal, on the afternoon of Wednesday, March 11, as part of a presentation mission in the city of Praia.
The delegation was accompanied by the World Bank Representative in Cape Verde, Indira Campos, and the Procurement Specialist for the AFW Region (Cape Verde and Guinea-Bissau), Sandra Lima.
The purpose of the meeting was to introduce the new heads of the World Bank’s Procurement Department, learn more about the functioning of the national procurement system, and strengthen institutional contact with the UGPE, thereby enhancing collaboration in the implementation of projects financed by the institution in the country.
During the meeting, topics related to project performance, implementation challenges, and the management of contracting processes were discussed, as well as the coordination between the UGPE and beneficiary entities and ministries.
On that occasion, the UGPE Coordinator highlighted that the unit has been working with the World Bank to identify strategies to make processes more efficient, strengthening teamwork and institutional coordination. He also emphasized that, despite some challenges inherent in the procedures and the different dynamics of the projects, the UGPE has been able to respond.In turn, the World Bank representative emphasized the importance of analyzing existing challenges and finding joint solutions, strengthening the partnership between the two institutions in the implementation of projects in Cape Verde.
The meeting thus served to reinforce institutional dialogue and consolidate cooperation between the teams, with a view to increasingly effective and efficient implementation of projects financed by the World Bank.
