The World Bank’s Mission to Support the Implementation of the Project to Harmonize and Improve Statistics in West Africa began this Monday, May 26. The mission runs until May 30 and aims to monitor the implementation of the project in Cape Verde.

The delegation led by economist-statistician Djibril Ndoye includes specialists from the World Bank in the areas of procurement, financial management, environmental and social safeguards, and social development, with the remote participation of some members of the technical team.

The mission’s main objectives include:

To assess the progress of the activities underway as part of the project;
Discuss aspects of project management, namely procurement, financial management and safeguards;
Establish an action plan for the implementation of each component;
Analyze the decisions of the Steering Committee, with emphasis on the possible reallocation of resources to priority activities to be completed by December 2025, the date the project is scheduled to end.

During the first three days, the mission was marked by a series of strategic meetings with the main national partners, with the aim of taking stock of the implementation of the different components of the project.

One of the relevant moments was the meeting with the Ministry of Agriculture and Environment (MAA), where topics such as the Agricultural Census, the 50×2030 initiative, the new National Survey on Food and Nutritional Vulnerability, and the implementation of integrated surveys were discussed.

The mission also met with the team from the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE) to analyze crucial aspects related to project coordination, financial management, environmental and social safeguards, and procurement processes, with the participation of technical experts in these areas.

Over the next few days, the mission will continue with an intense agenda of institutional meetings and field visits, with emphasis on the actions to supervise the collection of land registry data, currently underway on the islands of Santiago and São Vicente.
