The Minister of Agriculture, Rural Development, and Fisheries, Eveline Nair Ramos, met this Monday, July 20, with the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE) to monitor the progress of the Resilient Tourism and Blue Economy Development Project and the Health Security Project in West and Central Africa, both funded by the World Bank.

On that occasion, Minister Eveline Nair Ramos expressed her interest in closely monitoring the implementation of the projects under the Ministry’s purview, reiterating her willingness to support the actions necessary for the successful development of the activities and the achievement of the expected results.

During the meeting, a status update on the Resilient Tourism and Blue Economy Development Project was presented, highlighting the progress made on the main ongoing interventions. Among the actions currently being implemented are the rehabilitation of the São Vicente Fish Market, the redevelopment of the Santa Maria Pier, and other projects involving the rehabilitation of fishing infrastructure on various islands—investments aimed at strengthening the competitiveness of the blue economy, improving working conditions for fishing communities, and promoting more resilient and sustainable tourism.

The presentation was led by Nuno Gomes, Coordinator of the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE), and Vladimir Fonseca, Project Manager for Resilient Tourism and Blue Economy Development, who provided an overview of the implementation of activities and the progress made.

Regarding the Public Health Security Project in West and Central Africa, the list of planned actions under the One Health approach—which promotes an integrated response across human, animal, plant, and environmental health—was updated. Among the initiatives currently in preparation is the procurement of equipment for the laboratory of the National Institute for Agricultural Research and Development (INIDA), with the aim of strengthening national capacities for surveillance, diagnosis, and response to health threats.
