On the afternoon of this Friday, March 31, 2023, the opening of the Competition proposals took place in the meeting room of the Special Projects Management Unit: “Contract for the improvement and rehabilitation of the EN1-SL-01 road, Espargos – Santa Maria (Sal Island – Cape Verde)”.

This is an important infrastructure on the island of Sal, which connects the two main cities on the island (Santa Maria and Espargos) and is also the access road to the airport and the ZDTI of Murdeira and Algodoeiro. This national road, being the main connecting artery on the island, is a road with a strong impact on the development of tourist activities on the island and strongly contributes to the development of the local and national economy.

This competition falls within the scope of the implementation of the Resilient Tourism and Development of the Blue Economy Project in Cape Verde, which aims to increase diversity and resilience in the tourist offer and the participation of SMEs in value chains related to tourism in specific destinations.

For this competition, five proposals, from national and international companies, individually and/or in a Consortium, were submitted within the stipulated deadline, and an evaluation committee appointed for this purpose will evaluate the proposals during the month of April.

The contract is expected to be signed with the Firm/Consortium best ranked in the competition, during the month of May and construction work will begin during the first half of 2023.
