The Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE), on behalf of the Ministry of Finance, signed on Monday, March 16, the contract for the rehabilitation and modernization of the Mindelo Fish Market, the pier, and the surrounding area on the island of São Vicente.
The project will be carried out by the JV – SGL / Tecnovia Cabo Verde / Tecnovia Madeira, as part of the Resilient Tourism and Blue Economy Development Project in Cape Verde, funded by the World Bank. Work will begin after the relocation of fishmongers and users from the current market to the temporary market currently being completed at Praça Estrela in Mindelo.
The contract was signed by the #UGPE Coordinator, Nuno Gomes, on behalf of the Government of Cape Verde, and by the consortium’s representative, Silvino Graciano dos Santos.

This project is part of Component 1 of the initiative, which focuses on developing integrated and resilient infrastructure for tourism and the blue economy. Its goal is to improve conditions at the Mindelo fish market, strengthen infrastructure supporting fishing activities, and enhance the surrounding area.
Through this rehabilitation and modernization, the aim is to improve working conditions for fishermen and merchants, strengthen hygiene and food safety standards, and contribute to the urban and tourism development of Mindelo’s coastal zone.
The project is part of the Cape Verdean government’s strategy to promote the sustainable development of the blue economy, strengthening the link between fishing, tourism, and the sustainable use of marine resources.
