Government Awards Contract for Passenger Maritime Terminal at the Port of Praia
18 março, 2026Prime Minister Ulisses Correia e Silva presided over the signing ceremony for the contract awarding the construction of the Passenger Maritime Terminal at the Port of Praia on Tuesday, March 17, marking the official start of the project, valued at approximately 253 million escudos.
On the occasion, the Head of Government highlighted the strategic importance of the infrastructure for strengthening maritime transport in the country, emphasizing that the new terminal will offer conditions comparable to those of an airport, with check-in, boarding, and disembarkation areas, waiting rooms, and support services. He stated that the investment will enhance passenger safety, comfort, and convenience in a service with growing demand.
The ceremony included a guided tour of the construction site, the unveiling of the plaque, and the formal signing of the contract, allowing work to begin.
The Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE) was represented by Project Manager Vladimir Fonseca and Civil Engineer Sarah Fortes.
The future terminal will be built on a 1,661.67 m² site and will have two above-ground floors. The infrastructure was designed to ensure functionality and comfort, with five separate entrances that ensure the smooth flow of operations, including areas dedicated to passengers, baggage, and access to the pier.
With this project, Cape Verde takes another step toward modernizing the maritime sector, enhancing inter-island mobility and the quality of services provided.
