The Minister of Infrastructure, Housing, and Spatial Planning, Carlos Alberto Tavares, met with the Special Projects Management Unit (UGPE) for a working session aimed at reviewing the status of ongoing projects in the infrastructure sector.
During the meeting, UGPE Coordinator Nuno Gomes, accompanied by Human Capital Project Manager Clarisse Silva, presented the Unit’s responsibilities, its role in fiduciary management and the implementation of projects funded by development partners, as well as the coordination model adopted for carrying out the various initiatives.
During the meeting, a status update was provided on four strategic projects with a direct impact on the infrastructure sector: the Human Capital Project, the Project for Improving Connectivity and Urban Infrastructure in Cape Verde, the Resilient Tourism and Blue Economy Development Project in Cape Verde, and the Project for the Harmonization and Improvement of Statistics in West Africa.

As part of the Human Capital Project, the ongoing initiatives in the housing rehabilitation component were presented, along with the objectives of the project, the status of the activities, and the main challenges associated with their implementation.
Regarding the Project to Improve Connectivity and Urban Infrastructure in Cape Verde, the project’s shared management model was explained, along with the current status of ongoing activities and the main constraints identified, the resolution of which depends on ongoing coordination among the entities involved.
As for the Resilient Tourism and Blue Economy Development Project in Cape Verde, the investments and works currently underway on the various islands were presented, and aspects requiring closer monitoring and institutional support to ensure compliance with established deadlines and objectives were also identified.
Regarding the Statistics Project, the Land Registry, its challenges and results were discussed, as well as the possibility of introducing a new activity to establish place names.
During the presentation, the UGPE Coordinator also highlighted the main cross-cutting challenges to project implementation, particularly with regard to coordination with partner institutions.

After carefully following the presentation, Minister Carlos Alberto Tavares expressed his full willingness to closely monitor the issues identified, reaffirming the Ministry’s commitment to supporting the acceleration of project execution and promoting the necessary coordination with the various partner entities in order to overcome existing constraints and ensure faster and more efficient implementation.
